Zach Lowry is a DOP and conflict photographer based in Brooklyn, NY and Joshua Tree, CA.
His documentary photography is focused on armed conflict, displacement, and human rights - and has covered such issues in Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, South Sudan, Angola and India, amongst other areas. As a commercial cinematographer, Zach has photographed campaigns for some of the worlds most prestigious brands, including Equinox, Peloton, Reebok, Google, Guinness and Bristol Myers Squibb. He was responsible for lensing the pilot episode of Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries" reboot in 2020, which was the top-watched show globally for nearly two weeks. Zach also shot 2nd Unit on the short documentary “A Broken House,” which garnered numerous awards in 2021/22, including an Emmy nomination and a spot on the Oscar shortlist for Best Documentary Short. In 2023, he finished principal photography on ‘Seekers,’ a 6-episode documentary series centered on different forms of spiritual healing around the globe. In 2025, Zach began shooting and directing his first feature length documentary film, in Eastern Ukraine.
His work and style is driven by a desire to bring viewers closer to the lived experience of others and encourage cross-cultural empathy in the mission of real change. He is known for his ability to work in high-risk, physically demanding and culturally sensitive situations.
Zach is an avid athlete, cyclist and high altitude mountaineer, with ascents of Denali, Aconcagua, Ojos Del Solado, Cotopaxi, Chimborazo and various 6000m peaks in the Puna de Atacama, Chile. In his off time, you’ll likely find him photographing skyscapes in the high desert of southern California.
